We are not aware of any evidence to suggest that turmeric should be cooked or heated for its active components to be absorbed and utilized by the body. However, some research does suggest that it may be important to eat turmeric with some fat for improved absorption. While we haven’t seen research showing that a few dashes of black pepper will improve turmeric’s phytonutrient absorption, some researchers have shown that a standardized black pepper extract given in a specific dose with turmeric in supplement form may offer some benefits in this regard.
