Varieties of Sea Vegetables

Not all sea vegetables are edible; however there are a large variety of edible sea vegetables. Some of the most popular are -

Dulce

Dulce is soft, chewy and reddish-brown in color. It is one of the easiest sea vegetables to incorporate into your Healthiest Way of Eating. Just chop it and sprinkle it on your food.

Kelp

Light brown to dark green in color; commonly found in powder form.

Hijiki

Hijiki looks like small strands of black wiry pasta and has a strong flavor.

Nori

Nori has a dark purple-black color that turns phosphorescent greeen when toasted and is famous for its rold as the wrapper used in making suishi.

Kombu

Very dark in color and generally sold in strips or sheets that are very thick in comparison to nori; it is often used as a flavoring for soups and beans.

Wakame

Very dark in color, it is commonly used in Japanese miso soup.

Arame

This lacey-wiry sea vegetable is sweeter and milder in taste than many of the other varieties.
